If I had to describe Elaine in one word... I would have to say "steady". She would probably disagree, when it came to weight loss, because there definitely were "plateaus" on the journey. But (surprise!) plateau are a healthy part of the journey. They are how you learn about maintaining your weight, in the midst of real life. Sometimes our motivation will just lag. That would happen to Elaine, but .... steady... she just kept coming to group... making her plan, adjusting her plan, willing to try something new (except she was never willing to eat breakfast : ) and then the a half pound would drop, and then the pound. Elaine is a true RD success story. Thank you Elaine! |

I started the Reasonable Diet with Sandra in May 2006, because I was really tired of myself. My knees hurt, I panted when I took the stairs, and I could barely squeeze into my "normal" size clothing. I expected to be handed a set of rules to follow, similar to the nationally know diet plans, but it was, in a sense, much harder than that. Sandra made me think about why I ate, when I ate, what I ate. Thinking is hard work, especially when you are trying to discover what motivates you to eat what you eat, and when you are so used to just unconsciously eating whatever is in front of you. Sandra didn't hand out a printed "plan." She suggested several plans from which to choose or I could make up my own plan. Whatever works, is her theory, and a good one. "One size does not fit all, “especially when it comes to eating habits." Sandra encouraged me when I was struggling, but she kept forcing me to think about my eating and how it related to the ups and downs of my life. This was so refreshing that I found really freedom in her method. Sandra is very knowledgeable about a huge variety of aspects of dieting, nutrition, and just plain common sense. I look forward to the group meetings, to set in a circle and actually discuss strategies and challenges with her as well as other members of the group. This give and take really is a powerful way to rediscover myself and help me keep on track. |
