Dear Reasonable Dieters,

For your own personal wellness, it is important to be aware of the way that your environment affects you. I know that I have readers all over the globe, so I don’t mean to discriminate… but I do want to give a shout out to all of those who are feeling the effects from too many months of too little sunshine. Hang in there! Look for every opportunity to plant yourself in front of a sunny window, or take a walk in the sunshine. If you are seriously feeling affected, ask for help. Your doctor might recommend vitamin D or using a full spectrum light. I lost a good friend to suicide at this time last year. Please do not ignore depression.

I want to help you jump start your weight loss or stay on the path. I hope you’ll be able to join me for my brand new Spring Fling, which starts in just a couple of weeks.

Enjoy the newsletter!

xxoo,

Sandra

Greek strained yogurt.

You can have creamed soups again!

For a dinner party I made a delicious borscht (beet soup) … that requires a dollop of yogurt or sour cream on top, and since I was entertaining some reall connoisseurs, I was shopping for something special at the food co-op. That’s when I discovered Greek strained yogurt. What a great choice. It has the low calorie content of yogurt, but the richness of sour cream.

Read more at my blog, including a recipe for a fabulous Blue Cheese Salad made with Greek strained yogurt.

reasonableREADING

A magazine and cookbook
in one.

Food Porn

Reasonable Dieter Anna M. calls her monthly delivery of recipe magazines “food porn.” She assures me that she knows how to “slim down” the recipes to a more healthful offering. I encouraged her to subscribe to “EatingWell … where good taste meets good health”, so she wouldn’t have to alter the recipes. She might also be inspired, as I am with each issue, by all of the practical tips for learning to cook with and love healthy ingredients. The latest issues also includes info on “kitchen gardens” and how to grow your own salad greens.

The magazine is published bi-monthly and costs $24.95 for a year. If you are just making the break from less processed foods to more whole foods you’ll find the information and inspiration invaluable. Each issue is packed full of recipes. (I’ve included a blue cheese dressing recipe in this newsletter.)

There is an “at a glance” recipe index to make the magazine handy for future reference also.

reasonableQUOTES

I believe this to be true

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?

You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world. There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you.

We are all meant to shine, as children do. We are born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us, it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

Let’s be friends.

I am having so much fun on facebook. If you use facebook, send me a friend request. I don’t have a “reasonable diet” presence so just search me by my name, “Sandra Ahten”

I was recently re-acquainted with a friend from my home town who was discouraged because she dieted for three months and only lost 7 pounds. She claimed to have eaten better than she ever had in her life and was so disappointed. She was sure that she should see a dietician to help her understand why she couldn’t lose. I had to let her in on a little secret … she can lose… she had lost. When you are over 40… sometimes 7 pounds in 3 months is … well, it’s the way the ball bounces, the way the scale tips, as they say.

But I also pointed out

7 pounds in 3 months = 28 pounds in a year

7 pounds in 3 months = 52 pounds in two years.

But giving up = ???

So, I invited her to join my RD group. Why? Because if you are not feeling hungry or feeling deprived, then

7 pounds in 3 months = feels like a possibility for success

If you feeling overwhelmed or bored …

7 pounds in 3 months = drudgery that you just want to find an excuse to end.

I make dieting an interesting, fun learning experience. If you enjoy being challenged so that you can get unstuck from your old ways of thinking… you too will enjoy reasonable dieting.

And you will lose weight. Remember all my programs are 100% money back guarantee.

reasonableQUICK TIP

pear

Someone snuck a pear in my veggies.

A very very quick tip

Here is a very quick tip, for those of you who love roasting vegetables:

Include a pear in the mix for an unusual and tasty addition. I recently roasted a batch of asparagus and mushrooms with a few pecans and a pear. I seasoned with sea salt, olive oil. Wonderful.
