Welcome to all the new subscribers and big hello to all of you!

 

 

I know that many of you must be experiencing the “downturn” that I read and hear about constantly. I, on the other hand, feel wealthier starting off 2009 than I have ever felt before. Now mind you, I haven’t actually done the math. I haven’t done 2008 Profit and Loss analysis. My health insurance for Kevin and I just went up to $1200 a month. (Wow!) And yes, I have peeked at my diminished mutual funds. However, like I said ... I feel wealthier than I have ever felt before.

There are many reasons for it, but in a nutshell I would say that my frame of mind comes from the fact that I’m living with as much, or more, integrity than I ever have. I'm following my plans more closely than ever before. I have the good feelings because I know, that whatever external things happen – well, I can’t control them, but I’m doing everything that I personally can do to influence my life for the better.

The number one thing – is that I’m writing a book. Well, actually...now it is a book proposal...and I’m making good progress on it. And besides finally doing this thing that I’ve wanted to do for more than four years (maybe my whole life!) – the process is also making me a better diet coach. It is a bonus that I didn’t even expect, but it is clear to me that my ability to communicate the essentials that you need to know to be successful at dieting and to motivate you to actually take the steps are flowing much easier for me.

I’m also finding the Life Coaching that I do when I’m working with my VIP clients even more fruitful...because, of course, I’m living with the integrity of living my own passions.

Why is it so hard to lose weight? You are the Crunch Generation

As a society we are a dysfunctional mess with regard to our weight. I call my theory, as to what has caused and perpetuates this mess, being of the “crunch generation.”

Throughout human evolutional history our bodies have worked to become efficient fat-storing machines in order to prepare for long winters and famines. Ours is the first generation that is caught squarely between the efficiency that nature has achieved and a society where, as we live within the norms, that efficiency is diametrically opposed to what is good for us. Hence, "the crunch."

The conditions of being of the "crunch generation" make eating healthy and maintaining a healthy weight difficult. It has created the need for most of us to be on a diet -- if dieting means teaching ourselves to eat differently than the rest of society. A Time Photo Essay

I found this photo essay, containing 16 images of what a family eats in a typical week in various countries really intriguing. That’s not surprising though, as I’m always sneaking glances at other folks shopping carts and taking a little inventory of how middle America eats – and, of course, often finding them lacking in whole foods and fruits and veggies. (Just as the American family is in the essay. The Japanese too. ) The German family intrigued me. Their bill was $500 for a week for a family of four and look at the amount of liquids they consumed! The family from Chad tugged at my heart – but I loved their smiles. The Ecuadorian family has such a sparse home. I think the Mexican family really knows how to eat. The family from Kuwait is obviously living in another reality from what I imagine the typical Kuwait family is experiencing – check out their industrial kitchen.
