PODCAST: What is Podcasting?

Never heard of podcasting?

Podcasts are simply pieces of audio, compressed into the popular MP3 format -- so that they don't take up much computer space and can be down loaded easily. While you can come to the site and download them manually, the true beauty of podcasting is in the ability to use software ( referred to as either a 'podcatcher' or a 'podcast aggregator') to automatically download the show as soon as it is updated.

It's FREE

Even though you "subscribe" to a podcast (so that you don't miss episodes and don't have to wait for downloads) most podcasts (including mine) are free.

Do I need an iPod to download a podcast?

Absolutely not! Podcasts can be played on any hardware media player (iRiver, Creative, iPod, or any MP3 player) but they can also be listened to from your computer. You can even burn them to CD to take in the car.

What do I do now?

You can just go back to the "Listen" page. Click on the show you want to hear and listen right to a current episode. But if you want to subscribe to the podcast...follow these directions.

1.

Find and download a podcatcher. (I use i-Tunes) Download it yourself by CLICKING HERE. Note that iTunes requires you to give them your credit card. They don't charge you anything... but are hoping you'll buy music from them later.

Another option is to use Yahoo Music as your podcatcher.

Or you can use a program called Juice. Note that if you use Juice, it is not an all in one catcher and player like iTunes is.... you'll have to have a different player (like Real Player or the Windows player, or a player that came with your Mp3 player.) Most people have one on their computer.

2.

A. If your podcatcher is ALREADY i-Tunes:
Subscribe to Six Minutes of Sanity by clicking here
Subscribe to AIM (group support) podcast by clicking here

B. If you would like to use Yahoo for your podcatcher

(coming soon)

3.

Advanced users: Every podcast has a unique RSS feed. If you are already podcatching or want to subscribe through a different podcather that I don't have listed here.... here are the url addresses of the RSS feeds of the Reasonable Diet.
